Turning thirty usually comes with one clear ask: do it properly. Not a pub crawl that fizzles out at midnight, not a house party where people leave early, and not a generic function room with hired chairs and bain-marie schnitzel. A 30th is often the first milestone people plan exactly the way they want, so the room needs to feel good, photograph well, and hold a mixed crowd. Our Workshop in Coorparoo was built for exactly that kind of night.
What a 30th actually needs
By thirty, most people are done with the nightclub circuit but not ready for something stiff. The guest list is the tricky part: school friends, uni friends, work colleagues, a partner’s circle and family, who might share nothing except the birthday person. Cocktail-style Italian food solves that, because guests can move, talk, drink and reconnect rather than being locked to one seat. Food keeps appearing, the room stays active, and the birthday person gets to enjoy the night instead of running it.
The Workshop
The Workshop is our dedicated private function room, with its own laneway entrance, private bar and restrooms, and no shared space with the restaurant, so it’s yours for the night. It’s industrial-chic done properly: exposed brick, timber beams, a Maria Theresa crystal chandelier, polished concrete, festoon lighting and a jade green marble bar. It photographs beautifully with very little styling, and takes florals and personal touches well when you want more. It holds up to 156 seated or 180 cocktail-style, so a group of 60 feels full and lively while a bigger cocktail party has room to move and gather at the bar.
Cocktail-style Italian food
For a 30th, cocktail food usually makes the most sense. We can start with woodfired focaccia on arrival, then a selection of canapes through the night, cold, warm and woodfired pizzette. Cold options run to things like cured salmon with lemon mascarpone or beef carpaccio with truffle aioli; warm ones bring more substance, from pork and fennel sausage rolls to porcini arancini and garlic prawns; and the pizzette are woodfired pizza squares in combinations like sopressa salami or pork and fennel with roast pepper. If you want it more generous, add fork dishes, handmade pasta, gnocchi or risotto with ragus and truffle creams, a grazing table to return to through the night, and late-night pizza once the room shifts into party mode. It stays restaurant-quality without interrupting the party.
From cocktail function to party
A 30th often starts as drinks and canapes and turns into a proper party, and because the room is private, that shift happens without competing with the restaurant. The lighting, brick, chandelier and private bar already set the mood, and you can bring a DJ, acoustic musician or entertainer with a bit of notice. Some nights suit a full DJ; others work with acoustic early and a playlist later. It’s the sweet spot between a nightclub and a stiff dinner.
A bar built around the birthday person
The Workshop has its own private bar, so the drinks can feel tailored: sparkling on arrival, a favourite spirit behind the bar, or a short list of one or two feature cocktails, usually one fresh and one darker. With a bit of planning we can sort beverage packages, bar tabs (capped or open) and the personal touches that make the night feel like one person’s party rather than a generic function.
Speeches
By thirty there are real stories to tell, and our PA and wireless microphone mean speeches land properly without anyone shouting over the room. The projector and dropdown screen are there too, for a photo slideshow or a highlights reel. We’d suggest two or three speakers, kept to about four minutes each, once the room’s warm, with the birthday person’s response last.
No venue hire fee
We don’t charge a venue hire fee. The Workshop is included when your event meets the food and beverage minimum spend, which ties the cost to what your guests actually eat and drink rather than a separate room charge. Menus are per person, beverage packages run for a set period, or you can run a bar tab. We can also hold your preferred date with a provisional booking while you confirm numbers.
Personalising it
The room gives you a strong base, so small additions carry weight: flowers on the bar, a photo display from the past decade near the entrance, a custom cake (cakeage applies), a feature cocktail or a meaningful playlist. We regularly coordinate with external florists, cake makers and stylists, and your coordinator can sort timing and setup.
Location
We’re on Holdsworth Street in Coorparoo, close to the inner east and southside and easy from the CBD via the Story Bridge. There’s on-street parking nearby, Coorparoo train station is about a ten-minute walk, and rideshare can drop right at the door, handy for a night where some will drive and some will plan to drink.
Frequently asked questions
What guest count works best for a 30th?
The Workshop suits a wide range, but 40 to 100 guests works especially well, big enough for a real celebration, still warm and personal.
What are your hours?
Our restaurant serves dinner from 5pm Tuesday to Sunday, but private functions run seven days a week, lunch or dinner, so we can host your 30th any day, day or night.
Can I have a DJ or live music?
Yes, DJs, acoustic musicians and entertainers are welcome with advance notice. Full DJ setups need a quick chat first because the room has its own sound system and noise considerations.
Can I bring an outside cake?
Yes, with advance notice (cakeage applies). We’ll store it and bring it out at the right moment.
Do I need to finalise numbers when I book?
No. You can hold your date with a provisional booking and confirm the guest count closer to the event.
