When families look for a wake venue on Brisbane’s southside, it’s usually a practical problem in an emotional week: somewhere close enough to the service, easy for guests to reach, private enough for family, and warm enough that people feel comfortable staying for food, drinks and shared memories. Factory 51 is in Coorparoo, and our private function room, The Workshop, gives families across the inner south a calm, character-filled place to gather after a funeral, cremation, chapel or memorial service.
Why the southside location helps
Funeral days often involve travel between a church, funeral home, chapel, cemetery or crematorium, so location matters. Coorparoo is an easy reach from Camp Hill, Greenslopes, Holland Park, East Brisbane, Woolloongabba, Norman Park, Carina, Morningside, Mount Gravatt and Stones Corner, close to the city without feeling like a CBD function room. Less travel, clearer directions and a private room all take a little pressure off an already hard day, especially for older guests or those from out of town.
A private room with warmth
The Workshop sits separately from the main restaurant, down a private laneway, so your gathering stays dignified and contained. Exposed brick, polished concrete, soft lighting and a private bar give it character without feeling cold or corporate, and it works just as well kept simple as it does with a few personal touches: framed photos, flowers, candles, a memory table or a slideshow. It’s a gentler alternative to a hotel or club room, and because we’re a restaurant first, the food feels more thoughtful than a standard function package.
Food, drinks and gentle service
Food helps people settle after a service and gives everyone a reason to stay and talk. Our Italian menus are generous and made for sharing, a seated lunch, shared platters, canapes or grazing, depending on the time of day and numbers. Functions run seven days a week, lunch or dinner, so we can match the timing to your service, and the room holds up to 156 seated or 180 cocktail-style, while working just as well for a small family group. The private bar keeps drinks contained, with a package, bar tab or pay-on-consumption, and our team helps the food, drinks and any toast flow smoothly so the family isn’t left managing the room.
Photos, speeches and personal touches
Small details help guests remember someone properly, and simple usually feels the most meaningful. We can run a photo slideshow or tribute video through the room’s AV, and speeches can be one short welcome, a few prepared words, or simply stories shared as people talk. Soft background music or a song that meant something can help set the tone.
Wake, funeral reception or celebration of life
Families use different words for the gathering after a funeral, and we can suit each. For a broader overview see our Wake Venue Brisbane guide, and if you’d prefer a warmer, more personal tone, our Celebration of Life Venue Brisbane and Memorial Service Venue Brisbane pages may help.
Planning at short notice
Wakes are often arranged within days. You don’t need every detail worked out to enquire, just your preferred date, rough numbers, the service location and timing, and any food, drinks or access needs, and we’ll guide the rest with calm, practical support.

A Considered Space for a Wake
Saying goodbye deserves a venue that feels warm and private rather than clinical. Factory 51 offers a restored warehouse space on Brisbane’s southside for wakes and memorial gatherings — somewhere families can come together over good food and shared memories, away from the formality of a function centre. The room is private and self-contained, so your gathering is undisturbed.
Catering & Care Handled for You
The in-house Italian kitchen provides share-style food — antipasti, pasta and woodfired pizza — served by our team, so families do not have to organise outside caterers at a difficult time. A dedicated coordinator manages the details, and there is no venue-hire fee. The space suits intimate groups through to larger gatherings of up to 180.
Close to Home, Easy for Guests
In Coorparoo, around 12 minutes from the Brisbane CBD with easy parking, it is simple for guests of all ages to reach. The team approaches every memorial gathering with care and flexibility, shaping the day around what your family needs.
